Dental Council of Trinidad and Tobago

About Us

The Dental Council of Trinidad and Tobago is elected by, and responsible for managing the Dental Board of Trinidad and Tobago. The Dental Board refers to all registered dentists and dental auxiliaries.
 
The Council  was formed in accordance with the Dental Profession Act. This Act outlines the role and functions of the Council which include:
 
  • To register Dentists and Dental Auxiliaries 
  • To ensure the maintenance of proper standards of professional conduct by Dentists and Dental Auxiliaries
  • To hold inquiries into allegations of improper or unprofessional conduct by Dentists and Dental Auxiliaries
 
Presently the Council only registers Dentists and Dental Nurses. 
 
When seeking dental treatment it is important to ensure that your Dentist is registered with the DCTT, this is the only way to be certain that your Dentist meets the standards set by the DCTT and is qualified and capable of properly attending to your dental treatment needs.  You can use this website to help you find a registered dentist or to check the status of your dental health provider.

FUNCTIONS OF THE DCTT

(As outlined by the Dental Professional Act)

  • to determine and keep under review the professional qualifications and experience required of an applicant for registration or enrolment except applicants entitled to registration under section 5(1)(a);
  • to register dentists and enroll dental auxiliaries;
  • to regulate the training of persons enrolled as dental auxiliaries;
  • to publish for general information a list of universities, colleges or other institutions the diplomas of which are recognised by the Council;
  • to appoint a Board of Examiners for the purpose of conducting examinations
  • to define the dental work which any class of dental auxiliary may undertake and the conditions, if any, under which a dental auxiliary may undertake such work;
  • to ensure the maintenance of proper standards of professional conduct by dentists and dental auxiliaries;
  • to hold inquiries into allegations of improper or unprofessional conduct by dentists and dental auxiliaries and to discipline those found guilty
